The newly established and duly licenced Lux Mundi University, the first university to be cited in Umuahia, the Abia State capital has acquired over 106 hectares of land, including those donated by the host community, purchased and provided by the family of the Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Professor Gabriel Okenwa.
Okenwa disclosed that he was motivated to establish the university in his Isiama Afaraukwu community to provide opportunity for persons seeking higher education in the area.
He said Nigeria was yet to have the number of universities for its growing population, adding that more than 90,000 university admission- seekers from the South East Region could not gain admission to study their chosen or preferred courses during the 2023/24 admission exercise because of inadequate number of existing private and public universities in the region.
Okenwa consequently called for more universities in the country, saying that his Lux Mundi University is already set to commence academic activities in three faculties, namely Law, Management Sciences and Arts and Social Sciences in 2024.
