US Convoy Attack: Security operatives rescue two abducted victims in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has announced that two of the remaining victims abducted during the attack on a US convoy along Atani/Osamala Road in Ogbaru Local Council of Anambra State have been rescued unhurt by joint security forces.


The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the two were rescued in the early hours of yesterday, following intensive operations mounted by joint security forces in the state.

Confirming the development, Ikenga, in a statement, noted that operations are still ongoing to hunt down the criminals.

He added that all security agencies and Anambra State government are collaborating to identify and arrest the killers of United States officials in the state.

Recall that gunmen along Atani/Osamala Road ambushed the convoy of a team of officials from Lagos Consulate of United States of America and their police escorts on Tuesday, killing seven persons while two were declared missing.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng, has assured that the command and other security agencies would be working round the clock with Anambra State government to find and rescue the missing officials.

On its part, the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, through his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Thursday said: “We call on anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the criminals to offer same on our secured security phone numbers or to any of the security agencies and such informant will be handsomely rewarded.”
