A two-year-old baby, Abdulkadiri Tayib, is in dire need of N3.7 million for medical treatment to save his life.

Tayib was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukaemia, which affects the white blood cells, at Irrua Specialist Hospital in Benin, Edo State, on October 3, 2023.

After a CT scan on October 5, 2023, the child underwent a nephrectomy on December 12, 2023.

However, it was discovered that the child still needs chemotherapy treatment, which will cost N3.7 million.

A letter by a non-governmental organisation, Gifting Volunteer Network (GVN), dated January 16, showed that the child was diagnosed at Irrua Specialist Hospital in Benin, Edo State, after being presented to the hospital on October 3, 2023.

Speaking on the boy’s condition, his mother, Yahya Halimat, said: “Tayib is my first child. He has been in a sick bed for months. It hurts to see my child suffer, and I can’t help.”

She continued: “Neither me nor my husband have the wherewithal to cater for his medical bill. We’re using this opportunity to appeal to everyone to help us with financial assistance for Tayib’s surgery at Irrua Specialist Hospital, Ekpoma.”

When The Guardian contacted Dr. Ofure Okosun, a consultant at Irrua Specialist Hospital, she confirmed the authenticity and urgency of the case.

The family could be reached through the telephone number: +234 813 079 4067; and GTB Account Name: Abdulkadiri Tayib, and Number: 0900182094.
