Tinubu appoints veteran filmmaker, Eyengho, FCEE governing council chairman

President Bola Tinubu has appointed veteran Nollywood filmmaker, Mr. Alex Eyengho, as chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Eyengho was appointed alongside other 554 appointees in the reconstituted list of Governing Councils of Federal government owned universities, Polytechnic and Colleges of Education.

An elated Eyengho thanked President Tinubu for the appointment, which according to him, is recognition of the value he added before, during, and after the election. “This is a call to the service of our sovereign motherland. Therefore, it is for me to put to use the knowledge and experiences I have gained over the decades primarily for the good of the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and the Nigerian education sector generally,” Eyengho said, adding “on my honour, as Chairman of the Governing Council, of course, together with other members of the Council, I shall work within the extant laws guiding our operations, for the common good of all stakeholders in the value-chain.”

Though a major player and leader in Nollywood, Eyengho is also a politician, where he always insists that he is “a professional in politics and not a professional politician.” Part of the historical trajectory of his political life has seen him as the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) candidate for the Warri South-West Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly during the 2011 elections. Thereafter, he was Secretary of the ACN Media and Publicity Committee until 2014, when APC birthed via merger of ACN, CPC, ANPP (the Legacy Parties) and factions of APGA, NPDP etc.

He was at the merger convention in Lagos. In the 2019 general elections, he was the APC candidate for the Warri Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives. He was a member of the Appeals Committee for the APC National Convention that brought in the current NWC of the party. He was the Secretary of the Delta State LOC, coordinating the Delta Delegates for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the APC Presidential primaries. Eyengho was a member of the 2022/2023 Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, where he served as a member of the Media and Publicity Directorate. Also, Eyengho served as a member of the 2022/2023 Delta State APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council, where he functioned as Deputy Director of the Media and Publicity Directorate.
