Suspected Boko Haram gunmen on Saturday attacked the town of Dukku and nearby Tilen village in Gombe state, northeast Nigeria, killing five people as the country voted in presidential elections, witnesses and residents said.

The gunmen stormed Dukku, 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the state capital Gombe city, at about 11:30 am (1030 GMT), shooting randomly as voters queued up at polling stations.

“Three people were killed,” local resident Ibrahim Ahmad said, adding that the gunmen then killed a state assembly lawmaker and the local chief in the nearby herding village of Tilen.
