The Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS), Neda Imasuen, has asked the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to begin intervention in the failed road projects in Edo State.

The Senator commended the NDDC for providing power supply to several communities that were without hope of electricity supply for years in Edo.

Imasuen, who lamented the deplorable condition of roads and erosion problems in Edo State, citing the only access road to the NDDC 1×5MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in Amufi community, called on the NDDC to embark on road construction projects to bring succor to the people of the Niger Delta region.

Speaking during the official commissioning of 1×5MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in Amufi community, Imasuen said the intervention will provide power supply to over 6 communities in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Council to facilitate the development of the Niger Delta.

While commending the leadership of NDDC for the project to light up over six communities in the state, Imasuen said the project was going to add value to residents and businesses in the locality.

He appealed to NDDC to take up responsibilities in road rehabilitation and construction, lamenting that the only access road to the NDDC Amufi Injection substation was in a deplorable condition, ravaged by erosion menace.

“Please work on the road to this place. It is in a very deplorable condition. It has serious erosion challenges. As you have bought light to the communities to eliminate darkness, also provide intervention for this road and other roads in the state. Its a big project, which I know only big organizations like NDDC can handle,” the Senator said.

The MD/CEO, NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, while commissioning the project said the Federal Government was committed to completing viable NNDC projects across the nine mandate states of the region.

“The most compelling need, for this administration, instead has been that these projects are completed to serve urgent needs in the communities in which they are situated, and help in renewing hope in the people, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Ogbuku said.

Ogbuku however pledged to facilitate the process for the construction of the road to the NDDC 1×5MVA 33/11KV Injection Substation in Amufi community and solicited the state government’s role and other stakeholders in securing the facility.

A retired director of NDDC and member of the community, Messrs Osadolor, thanked the NDDC for the power project and added that the project will improve the power supply in the Amufi community and neighbouring communities and increase productivity for businesses.
