Respite as Edo community celebrates completion of road, 10 years after

Respite came the way of residents of Oregebeni community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Council of Edo State, yesterday, following the commissioning of the second Phase of Guinness Way, popularly called ‘Trailer Road’, ten years after it was initiated.

The Guardian learnt that the road project initiated by Guinness Nigeria Plc cost over N500 million.

Excited at its completion, elders of the host community, led by Acting Head (Odionwere) of Oregebeni Community, Joseph Iserierien, and Secretary, Osamede Arasonwan, expressed appreciation to the Edo State governor and Guinness Nigeria for ensuring the completion of the road, and called for more of such developmental projects.

“We are looking forward to seeing the popular roundabout in Ramat Park reduced and fixed, to reduce traffic gridlock especially on Oregebeni market days, with security lights round the market, among others,” Iserierien said.

The chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Council, Eric Osayande, appealed to the company to assist the host communities with transformers and help tackle erosion.

Speaking at the official commissioning, Managing Director, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Adebayo Alli, said the project was a testament of the firm’s commitment to community development and sustainable progress.

Alli said the road, formerly known as Iyoha Road, represents the second phase of a project initiated a decade ago.

He said: “The completion of Guinness Way represents more than just the construction of a road. It embodies our enduring dedication to creating positive change in the communities we serve.”

“With every kilometre paved, we have forged a path towards greater connectivity, accessibility and opportunity for the residents of Oregebeni and the public. It stands as a symbol of our dedication to enhancing the infrastructure within our host communities.

“But beyond its physical presence, Guinness Way serves a vital purpose in mitigating the impact of severe erosion and ensuring safe passage for both pedestrians and vehicles in Oregebeni community.”

Corporate Relations Director of the firm, Rotimi Odusola, commended the host community for providing the company with a suitable environment to thrive.
