Residents decry dilapidated hospital in Taraba, seek govt intervention

The General Hospital in Abbare community, Lau Local Council of Taraba State, is in a sorry state. Decrying the situation, the residents called on government for intervention.

It was built in 2008 by the late Governor Danbaba Suntai to bring healthcare closer to the grassroots.

The current state of the hospital has begun to impact negatively on the surrounding communities, while rodents and reptiles add to the pains of patients.

Some patients on admission, who managed to speak with The Guardian, lamented the presence of rats, lizards and sometimes snake in the hospital wards.

Pointing at cracked walls in the various wards visited, which the patients said have become home for reptiles, a patient, simply identified as Hassana, said: “These lizards sometimes jump on our beds when we are sleeping.”

She called on government to come to their aid before the facility caves in.
