Police arraign Lagos cleric for posting woman’s pictures on Facebook

65-year-old woman nabbed for allegedly assaulting landlord 
The police in Lagos, yesterday, arraigned a 48-year-old cleric, David Olasupo, before a Badagry Chief Magistrate’s court for allegedly posting a woman’s pictures on Facebook and tagging her ‘ritualist’.

The defendant, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a charge of breaching the peace.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.


The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 29, at about 10:30 p.m., at Ilogbo-Eremi, Badagry, Lagos State.

Adeosun said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to breach the peace by posting the pictures of another cleric,  Mrs Mayowa Abimbola, on Facebook and tagging her a ritualist.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant and Abimbola, the complainant, had a good relationship until recently.
 
The prosecutor added that the defendant used to invite the complainant for fellowship and evangelism until they had a misunderstanding.

The offence, he said, contravened Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
 
After taking his plea, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned till June 25 for mention.

ALSO, the Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, arraigned a 65-year-old woman, Yetunde Olajuwon, in a Badagry Chief Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly assaulting her landlord.

The defendant, who was arraigned for assault, malicious damage, and threat to life, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.


The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 30, at about 4:30.p.m, at No 1, Marlley Close Ibasa-Nla, Iyana-Era, Ijanikin, Lagos.

According to Ekpo, the woman allegedly held her landlord, Mr Emmanuel Marlley, in a chokehold.

“The defendant maliciously damaged the floor tiles, keys, water closet cover, floor to the entrance, sockets, electrical wires and change over box valued at N450,000. The defendant threatened to kill her landlord,” the prosecution said.

The offence contravened the provisions of Sections 172, 350 and 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

After his plea, the Chief Magistrate, Mr N. A. Layeni, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said one of the sureties should be gainfully employed while the other should be a civil servant.

He adjourned till June 6, for mention.
