Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has approved the re-awarding of three road contracts earlier awarded to PW Construction Nigeria Limited and recently revoked.
The decision to re-award the contracts to other firms was taken during the Executive Council (EXCO) meeting at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
The EXCO sat for a long time to decide on many issues, including approval for an executive bill for the creation of Plateau State Investment Promotion Agency (PLASIPA).
At the end of the meeting, which was presided over by the governor, the Commissioner for information and Communication, Dan Manjang, who briefed reporters on the decisions reached at the meeting, said the re-awarded contracts included Tahoo/Ganawuri road at N1.2 billion to Joe Dapson Global Limited with 12 months completed period.
Manjang also said that construction of the 13km Mangu by-pass was awarded to Sky Technical Construction Company Limited at N2.7 billion.
Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Works and Housing, Sunday Hyat, disclosed that seven projects were earlier awarded to PW in 2017.
“PW offered to relinquish the Tahoss/Gaawuri/Mangu by-pass and Shendam Township, so that it can concentrate on four projects. EXCO agreed to take the three roads from it,” he said.
Also approved at the EXCO meeting was the supply of vehicles for various government officials who have not been given official cars since they were appointed over one year ago.
According to Manjang, purchase of the cars has become necessary because “at the expiration of every regime, government is supposed to give official vehicles to principal officers, but that has not yet been done.”
He added: “In view of the current economic situation, the supply of the official vehicles will be done in batches.”
