Two additional people have reportedly died of the cholera outbreak in Niger State, raising the toll to eight.
On Saturday, five people had died of the disease, while 33 were hospitalised.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nimkong Lar, could not be reached to confirm the latest deaths.
But an official in the ministry said: “It is true; there is an outbreak and about 33 cases of cholera and six deaths have been confirmed in Plateau. Citizens are urged to be very careful and report any incident to credible health facilities.”
The Guardian gathered that the outbreak was recorded in five communities in Jos South Local Council, and heads of health facilities were told to take every necessary measure to control the spread.
Our source added that Jos North, Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Bassa councils were also affected.
He further said that residents were asked to mind the sources of their water and handle their fruits with care to avoid being victims.
Lar, at the weekend, had confirmed the outbreak of the disease to journalists, adding that five persons died on Saturday.
“People should be health-conscious by ensuring that all fruits and vegetables are properly washed before eating,” he added.
