PDP wins governorship election in Ebonyi

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Dave Umahi, has won the governorship election in Ebonyi.

Announcing the result on Sunday in Abakaliki, the Returning Officer, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, said that Umahi polled 289, 867 votes to beat contestants from eight other political parties.

According to him, Umahi’s closest rival, Chief Edward Nkwegu of the Labour Party (LP), polled 124, 817 votes while the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Julius Ucha, scored 27, 583 votes.

“A total of 1.5 million voters registered for the exercise; 500, 938 voters were accredited while total valid votes were 466, 312.

“Total number of rejected votes was 17, 325 and total votes cast were 483, 637,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other parties which participated in the exercise included the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA).

He said that the PDP candidate won in the 13 local government areas of the state. (NAN)
