Passenger dies on Ogbomoso-Ilorin Expressway after bus breakdown


A yet-to-be-identified elderly passenger has passed away in a commercial bus while travelling along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway in Kwara State.


Eyewitnesses said the deceased was believed to be in his late 60s.

The incident, which left fellow passengers in shock, reportedly occurred after the bus experienced mechanical problems near Ote town.

According to Abeni Okin, a bus passenger, the deceased began to have seizures and breathing difficulty shortly after the bus breakdown.


“The unfortunate incident happened on April 20, 2024. It began when the bus encountered mechanical issues, forcing the driver to stop the vehicle near Ote and leave the passengers behind to seek assistance,” Okin said.

“Amidst the ordeal of the stalled journey, the elderly passenger began experiencing seizures and struggling to breathe, signalling a medical emergency.”

Okin added that despite the desperate need for help, the remote location of the incident posed significant challenges in accessing a timely medical assistance


“With no immediate medical attention available, the man’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and tragically, he passed away before help could arrive.”
