OGUN State House of Assembly has passed a resolution challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that every registered voter in the state gets his or her
Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) before the beginning of the elections slated for Saturday, March 28 and Saturday, April 11.
The passage was consequent upon a motion moved by a member representing Ifo 1 State constituency, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo while speaking under motion of urgent public national importance and seconded by the Chief whip, Hon. Samuel Solarin.
In his submission, Hon. Oluomo, observed that it was unfortunate that a large percentage of the electorate in the State, particularly in his constituency were yet to collect their PVC and called on the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to do everything possible to see that every registered voters in the State collect their PVC.
In their various contributions, Honourables Olayiwola Ojodu, Samuel Solarin, Olusola Bankole and Adeyinka Mafe decried the “nonchalant attitude” of the members of staff of INEC in the
State, alleging “they are not doing enough to ensure a hitch-free PVC distribution to the electorate”.
Others who spoke included Honourables Tola Banjo, Harrison Adeyemi, Wilfred Allen-Taylor and Job Akintan, submitting that if the current situation was not rectified, thousands of registered voters would be disenfranchised during the elections.
The lawmakers counseled INEC to address the challenges hindering the collection of the PVCs in the State, noting “ 40 percent distribution in the State which is the least in the country is unacceptable”.
In his remark, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Suraju Adekunbi charged the Chairman of INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega and the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Timothy Ibitoye to be alive to their responsibilities.
