Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has pledged to redress the high population growth as well as social and economic problems plaguing the region over the years.

In a communique after the 19 governors met in Kaduna, they commended the Federal Government for the dynamic, focused and courageous leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

According to the governors, the Federal Government has demonstrated total commitment to winning the war against terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the country.

In the communique signed by the Chairman of NSGF, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe, the forum said: “Climate change, unsustainable agricultural practices and population growth posed significant challenges to the region,” pledging to address the challenges.

“The forum resolved to adopt a holistic approach that will promote environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture and responsible resource management to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of the people and preserve the national heritage of generations unborn.”

The forum further noted human capital development as critical to the progress and prosperity of the region and expressed concern that the region bears the burden of having the highest number of out-of-school children in the world.

It stated: “The forum committed itself to invest massively in education and skill development, healthcare and social services to address the menace.” On the economic development front, Yahaya remarked: “The forum received the report of a committee to review the Report of the Technical Committee on the New Nigeria Development Company. The forum resolved that members should study the report for consideration at its next meeting.”
