Nollywood up in celebration for new DG Of NFVCB Shaibu Husseini

Congratulatory messages have continued to pour in for culture, film expert and public relations specialist, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, since his appointment as Director General of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Shaibu, who holds a PhD in film studies from the University of Lagos and who until his appointment reported film and art for about three decades for the flagship, The Guardian Newspaper, was appointed alongside 10 others including the filmmaker Ali Nuhu and the showbiz czar Obi Asika on January 12. Shaibu’s appointment and that of Ali Nuhu and Obi Asika who were named as MD of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) and the National Council of Arts and Culture (NCAC) respectively was contained in a press release issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Chief Ajuri Ngelale.

The Board of Directors of the I-represent International Documentary Film Festival, in a letter of congratulation signed by co-founder and Executive Director, Femi Odugbemi, noted that Shaibu’s extensive experience and dedication to the film industry makes him a valuable asset for this crucial role. According to the Board, “we are confident that your leadership will bring positive changes and advancements to the work of the NFVCB. Your passion for the industry and commitment to upholding standards will undoubtedly make a lasting impact. Be rest assured of our unflinching support and encouragement always.” Also, the Audio-Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (www.avrsnigeria.com) has extended its warmest congratulations to Shaibu, who is a teaching and research fellow at the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Lagos.

In a letter signed by the AVRS Chairman, the CMO noted that Shaibu’s appointment stands as a visible testament to the confidence President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) has in his ability to make a difference at the NFVCB. The letter reads: “We are pleased as it enables us to sustain our collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture and Creative Economy and the NFVCB regarding the copyright domain, especially the audiovisual industry, an essential element in the modern global economy. We believe that your extensive experience and specialised knowledge will be of immense value in your new position. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with you to guarantee the protection and advancement of the works and rights of filmmakers and producers in Nigeria.”

A similar letter of congratulations came from the CEO of the Nollywood Travel Film Festival Mykel Parish Ajaere who described Shaibu’s appointment as a significant milestone and noted that his appointment came at a critical time when the film and video industry in Nigeria is experiencing tremendous growth and international recognition. “Your previous roles and accomplishments showcase your understanding of the entire creative sector and the impact it can have on society. As the new Director General, your vision and leadership will undoubtedly shape the future of Nigerian cinema,” Ajaere wrote.
