NEMA Distributes Relief Materials to Baga IDPs In Borno

THE Federal Government has delivered four trailer loads of relief items to Boko Haram victims in Baga’s January 3, 2015 attacks that claimed the lives of many people and property on the Lake Chad shores of Borno State.

  The items which were delivered on Thursday to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) comprise 600 bags of rice, 300 bags of maize, 500 pieces of wrapper, 400 pieces of men’s clothes, 1, 000 pieces of blankets, among other items to be distributed to over 3, 200 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Baga and Doron Baga communities.

  Speaking in Maiduguri, the state capital, the North East Coordinator of NEMA, Mohammed Kanar disclosed that the relief materials are to be distributed to all the displaced persons resettled at Ali Monguno Teachers Village camp.

  According to him, the relief materials are for the 3, 200 displaced people from communities currently camped at the teachers’ village.

  Caretaker chairman of Kukawa Local Government Area, Musa Alhaji Bukar Kukawa thanked the federal government for the assistance, even as he noted that it is their responsibility to take care of the welfare of its citizens, since the border towns were attacked by insurgents.

  He called on the federal government to intensify military operations so that the people can return to their respective communities.
