As Ikpeazu assures to handover stronger state to successor

The National Economic Council (NEC) has stated that its resolution to undertake visits to states in the country was informed by the need to get first hand information on projects and policies put in place across states and to institute a peer review mechanism where states can learn from each other.

The South East NEC Monitoring Team, led by Deputy Director, Special Duties, Dorothy Uwaoma, who was on such visit to Abia State, had, during an interaction with the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, said that from their records, the state is the first in Nigeria to introduce Medical Laboratory Services in Primary Health Care Centres, noting that the pilot scheme was cited at Nkwoegwu, in Umuahia North Council.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the team, Jonah Okeme, told the governor that there is marked improvement in the area of infrastructure from what they saw when they last visited the state in 2020.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, in a statement, said the visiting NEC team was particularly delighted with the Mother and Child Hospital at Umuahia, as well as the Enyimba Automated Shoe Factory at Aba.

He stated that the governor assured the NEC team that his administration would hand over to his successor a state that is stronger and better in every respect. He also promised that he would strive to do more for the state until his last day in office.

Emenanka said: “The governor informed the people of Abia that he will do everything possible to complete the multi-Specialist Hospital, located in the premises of the old Aba General Hospital, which is 95 per cent completed, with necessary medical equipment.

“Every available socio-political and economic indices makes it clear that the requisite foundations have been laid for the next administration to build on. Abia is way better than it was when we came on board.”
