Minimum wage strike unnecessary, says Kogi government

Kogi State Government has described the 14-day ultimatum and move by the organised labour in the state to embark on strike over non-implementation of the new minimum wage as uncalled for.

The Head of Civil Service (HoS), Mrs. Hannah Odiyo, stated, yesterday, in Lokoja that the wage committee had concluded its assignment before the end of 2021 and submitted the report to Governor Yahaya Bello.

According to her, the report is presently receiving the government’s attention and the leadership of the organised labour in the state is aware of the development.

“As such, a warning letter for an impending strike is uncalled for at this point. I hereby reiterate that the welfare of workers remains a priority to the government. I plead that the truth should be told at all times to maintain the harmonious relationship between the labour and the government,” she added.
