The Olubadan-in-Council, a conclave of Ibadan High Chiefs, also known as kingmakers, yesterday, cleared the air on the successor to the late Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogunguniso 1, whose demise was confirmed on January 2.
The Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland and former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who spoke on behalf of the Council after a closed-door meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde, at the Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, said that the perceived controversy surrounding ascension to the Olubadan Stool was amicably resolved.
The meeting had in attendance the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, High Chief Lekan Balogun; Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Owolabi Olakuleyin; Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rasidi Ladoja; Ashipa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Eddy Oyewole; Ekerin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Abiodun Kola Daisi; Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Amidu Ajibade; Otun Balogun, Chief Tajudeen Ajibola; Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe; Ashipa Balogun, Chief Adewole Adegbola; and the Ekarun Balogun, Chief Dauda Azeez Agagugu.
Meanwhile, indigenes of Ibadanland have been urged to stop further comments over the throne of the late Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Salliu Adetunj Aje Ogugunniso I, that is currently vacant.
A statement signed by the President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Prince Oluyemisi Adetayo Adeaga, read: “The entire membership of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes commiserates with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and people of Ibadanland, on the demise of Oba Salliu Adetunj Aje Ogugunniso I, the late Olubadan of Ibadanland…”
This medium is also used to appeal for caution and calm by all and sundry, who have engaged in expressing various views and opinions on the ascendancy of a successor to the now vacant throne.
“Many people have either openly or otherwise, demonstrated their passion for Ibadanland. This is appreciated. However, the arguments and discussions have been found to be both unnecessarily preemptive, thus fanning the embers of enmity and discord among the hitherto loving people in the society, and those contradicting the good intentions of all the parties contrary to the good intentions of all the parties involved…”
