Lagos task force impounds 253 commercial motorcycles in Mile 2

Seized motorcycles yesterday

Lagos State Task force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences, yesterday, impounded 253 more motorcycles in a renewed operation to get commercial motorcycles off highways and restricted routes.

The exercise, led by the chairman of the agency, Shola Jejeloye, took place along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway. Jejeloye described the Apapa-Oshodi expressway as a take-off point for okada riders, who violate Lagos State traffic laws by operating on the highway and Apapa Local Council, which is one of the councils where their activities are banned outright. He said: “We have been to this particular location about twice because of the sensitivity of the corridor and the routes it connects.

“However, our leniency has been taken for granted by these okada operators and perpetrators of illegalities in this area, who feel we are oblivious of their activities. We surprised them today and confiscated all bikes that operate there. I am sure they would have gotten the picture by now.” Jejeloye assured Lagosians that the agency will keep up the back-to-back enforcement across all nooks and crannies of the state.
