Lagos establishes 680 centres to address out-of-school menace

As part of efforts to tackle the problem of out-of-school children, the Lagos State government has established 680 centres to cater for those who are not in school.

The centres, cited across the five divisions in the state, are equipped with necessary tools for the children to acquire skills.

The Deputy Director, Agency for Mass Education, Mrs Ruth Sonayan, who disclosed this to journalists, said the present administration is committed to reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.

Sonayan, who was the special guest at the 2023 end of year party of Christ College, The Royal Acres, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, also disclosed that the agency would intensify its efforts in the new year to significantly reduce the number of children who are out-of-school.

Speaking also on the importance of Christmas festival, Sonayan urged parents, schools, and other stakeholders to continue emphasising the reason for the celebration, rather than focus only on merriment, which is often associated with the season.

She commended the college for modelling the students in the way of the Lord, saying this is good for the society and urged other schools in the state to imbibe these virtues.

The event was graced by parents, stakeholders, families, and associates.
