THE Abia State Government has dissolved the Committee on Review and Revalidation of Ariaria International Market, Aba, resolving to immediately upgrade and restore the market to its original master plan.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Godwin Adindu, noted the restoration plan to include provision of space for banking, fire service, car park, police station and other essential services.
It directed the chairman of the sacked committee, Chigozie Osuala, to hand over all documents, assets and property of government in his custody to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment. It also voided all construction works authorised and executed by the committee in the market, adding that a new directive on government’s plan will follow soon.
According to Adindu, “the upgrade of Ariaria Market is part of government’s large-scale comprehensive infrastructure renewal plan of the commercial city, Aba, which has started with road construction and the de-silting of drainages.”
Meanwhile, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has disclosed that the $200 million African Development Bank (AfDB) loan would be expended on the provision of water, addressing sanitation issues and the construction of roads, among others.
Ikpeazu, who spoke when the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministries, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, visited him at the Government House, Umuahia, also pledged to allocate a piece of land for the church’s proposed university, and also construct a five-kilometer access road.
He hoped that God would use Kumuyi’s visit for multiple crusades to turn things positively in the state.
Kumuyi had stated that he was in the state for the church’s annual gospel crusade.
