Gunmen invade Rivers community, kill three suspected police informants

Rivers CP, Disu

Some gunmen suspected to be members of Greenland cult loyal to one ‘General Crocodile’ have reportedly invaded the Olokuma community in Ahoada West Local Council of Rivers State, abducted and killed three male residents believed to be Police informants.

The Guardian learnt that the incident happened Saturday night, while a lifeless body of one of the male victims was found at dawn. According to sources, the villagers are making efforts to recover bodies of the remaining two.

It was gathered that the attack could be a reprisal by the armed gang who are in disarray due to Police’s unrelenting onslaught against cultism and other violent crimes in recent times.

Community sources said the attack was to install fear in the minds of residents and to discourage members of the community from cooperating with the Police and other security agents in intelligence and information sharing. When contacted, spokesperson for the state police command, SP Grace Iringe Koko said she will verify and revert, but she didn’t do so as at press time.

Meanwhile, the Civil Military Police Paramilitary Relations (CIMPARR) has condemned the killing. Coordinator of the group, Green Isaac, urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to redeem the N100 million bounty placed on deceased cultist, David Gift.
