EFCC arrests man for spraying N200 notes in Gombe

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested one Zachariyya Muhammad for allegedly abusing the naira in Gombe State.


The anti-graft agency, in a statement on Wednesday, said Muhammad was arrested on Saturday, May 25, 2024, based on intelligence linking him with alleged spraying naira notes at G-Connect in Tunfure area of the state.

The suspect was shown a video where he was dancing and spraying naira notes in N200 denomination and admitted to being the one in the video.

The EFCC stated that he will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.


The EFCC has started enforcing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy on naira abuse.

Few months ago, Nollywood actress, Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was sentenced by a Federal High Court, to six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to spraying and stepping on naira notes at a social event.

Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky was also sentenced to six months imprisonment for abusing the naira. The option of a fine was, however, not granted to him and he has begun to serve his time in a correctional facility.


Also Pascal Okechukwu AKA Cubana Chief Priest, a popular socialite and businessman, was charged to court for allegedly spraying the Naira at social events.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted N10million bail with two sureties in like sum.
