The simmering feud between rap artists Drake and Kendrick Lamar has taken a new turn. Over the weekend, at a concert stop on his “Big As the What?” tour, Drake seemingly addressed a recent diss from Kendrick.
The drama began with Kendrick’s verse on the song “Like That” from Future and Metro Boomin’s new album.
In a fiery verse on the track “Like That,” Kendrick Lamar takes center stage. He directly addresses bars from both Drake and J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” a song included on Drake’s album “For All the Dogs.”
In that track, J. Cole refers to the trio of Lamar, Drake, and himself as the “big three,” starting a debate on who truly holds the title of the best emcee: “Is it K. Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me? We the big three like we started a league.”
Drake responded with a bar that seemingly excludes Lamar from the “big three” designation: “Who the G.O.A.T.? Who you bitches really rootin’ for? Like a kid that acts up from January to November, n—a, it’s just you and Cole.”
However, Kendrick Lamar doesn’t hold back. In “Like That,” he directly references their bars and takes aim: “Yeah, get up with me, fck sneak dissing / ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they came with three switches,” he raps. He later adds, “Motherfck the big three, n—a, it’s just big me.”
But Lamar doesn’t stop there. He critiques the quality of their music and boldly asserts that his legacy will outlast their influence.
Comparing himself to Prince and his relationship to Michael Jackson, he declares, “Your best work is a light pack / N—a, Prince outlived Mike Jack / N—a, bum, ‘fore all your dogs get buried / That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary.”
On Sunday night, Drake took the stage in Sunrise, Florida and delivered a message that many believe was a direct response to Kendrick.
Drake told the crowd: “A lot of people ask me how I’m feeling… I’ma let you know I’m feeling. Listen, the same way I’m feeling is the same way I want you to walk out this building tonight.” He continued, “I got my head up high, my back straight, I’m ten f**king toes down… and I know no matter what there’s not another n**** on this Earth that could ever f*ck with me.”
