SIR: What more can we say about Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, during this Fourth Republic: Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Vice President and finally, President of Nigeria. But all those accolades pale into total insignificance when it comes to his courageously admitting his defeat by General Muhammadu Buhari at the just concluded presidential election.

He picked up the phone to call and congratulate the winner.

No honest Nigerian at home and in the Diaspora will fail to salute him, because what he did is a rarity in Nigerian politics. He too has become a General in the sense that he broke through the tradition of an incumbent fiddling with the electoral system to remain in office. We are confident history will forgive your failings and mistakes, because your real self has shone through. You have set a good example.

We look forward to saluting president-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, as he faces the herculean task of nation- building. We will work with you as a charity organization, non-political, non-religious bent on contributing to the development of Nigeria, both at state and national levels. We have ideas and are coming speedily. Actually, we are right at the door.

So, two Generals – one stepping out, and the other coming in, we salute you both and wish you the best for the rest of your lives.
