•Gunmen kill APC spokesman in Plateau

At least 12 persons have been killed, and nine others brutally injured by bandits who attacked Gindin Dutse Makyali village of Kufana district in Kajuru Local Council of Kaduna State.

  
The Guardian gathered that the bandits, who also razed 17 houses, kidnapped many in the area. Police authorities in Kaduna have not confirmed the incident, but a community leader, Moses Musa, told newsmen that the attack took place in the early hours of yesterday near a military checkpoint.
 He said that the bandits invaded the community around 5.00 a.m. as the residents were still asleep and started shooting sporadically.
  
According to him, nine people were burnt to death inside their rooms, while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries from fire burns.
The community leader also disclosed that 17 houses were burnt by the bandits during the attack that lasted for hours without any resistance.
  
Meanwhile, in a statement by the spokesperson of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), Josiah Abraks, the bandits had earlier attacked Kwassam community on Friday night.  He also said 50 people were kidnapped by the bandits in another attack at Sabon Layin village at the same time.
 
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said: “While working with security forces and other critical stakeholders on mitigating security challenges, Governor Uba Sani received security reports on renewed bandits attack resulting in loss of lives, kidnappings and destruction of properties in Kajuru and Igabi. 
  
“He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to, as a matter of urgency, assist the affected communities in Kajuru and Igabi.”

MEANWHILE, troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have killed four Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Yobe State.
The troops on February 16, 2024, also rescued two female passengers and their children in Buni/Yadi, 54 kilometres south of Damaturu.
  
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert, in the Lake Chad region that the terrorists were neutralised in Lamisuri village of Gujba Local Council. 

A military source in Maiduguri also stated that two female passengers and some children were, however, abandoned during the hot pursuit by soldiers. Makama noted that the pursuit yielded positive results when the soldiers caught up with the terrorists near Lamisuri village, where a firefight ensued. 

  
During the encounter, the team reportedly killed four terrorists and recovered a tricycle with some stolen food items, while some of the terrorists were believed to have escaped from the scene with gunshot wounds. The military sources said efforts were being intensified to track the fleeing terrorists and rescue the remaining victims.

GUNMEN suspected to be kidnappers have killed the Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Sylvanus Namang. Namang was said to have died on Saturday around 8pm from the injuries sustained from the attack.Chairman of the party in the state, Rufus Bature, confirmed the story to journalists in Jos, yesterday. The Guardian was gathered that he died at a joint called Sunny Best in Pankshin Local Council of the state.
 
 The owner of the pub, Sunny Okonkwo, was also killed. Namang was a Director with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) serving as General Manager of Lafia FM Radio for four years before becoming APC spokesman.
