Armed bandits have killed two persons and kidnapped many others in Garawa village, Giwa Council of Kaduna State.


The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, made this known in a statement yesterday.

Aruwan stated that investigations were ongoing into the incidents, as security agencies intensify patrols in the council.

“Armed bandits raided Doka village of Fatika District in the same local government and abducted some residents. In Angwan Dan Yaya village, Alhaji Suleiman Audu was shot dead by the bandits.

“Governor Nasir el-Rufai has expressed sadness at the reports, and prayed for the repose of the souls of the slain while sending his condolences to their families.”


The commissioner also disclosed that several bandits were neutralised in air missions across Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi and Chikun councils.

MEANWHILE, the combined troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), 72 Special Forces Battalion, 93 Battalion and Mobile Policemen from Takum have arrested 17 bandits linked to the late Terwase Akwaza (alias Gana) in their different hideouts in Katsina Ala Council of Benue State.

The bandits had reportedly kidnapped 23 indigenes of Taraba State along Wukari/Takum road on January 27, 2021.

Briefing newsmen in Makurdi yesterday, the Security Adviser to Governor, Col. Paul Hemba (rtd.), said during the operation, 19 of 23 abducted victims were rescued.
