ALL Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won the 25 House of Assembly seats so far released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Anambra State.
Besides, INEC has re-scheduled elections in four out of the 30 state constituencies in Anambra State for reasons ranging from electoral violence, card reader malfunction and loss of election materials. INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Edwin Nwatarali stated this in a press briefing, saying that the candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) swept 25 of the already declared constituencies, while as at the time of briefing journalists, results of Anambra West State constituency were still being collated.
“The delay in the Anambra West result collation was as a result of violence, which was perpetrated by some thugs, but we quickly made contact with the security agencies and they mobilized and went there, and with normalcy restored, results are being collated now,” Nwatarali said.
The constituencies where elections were rescheduled include; Anaocha 1 and 2 state constituencies, Uga ward 1, Ekwusigo.
In Anaocha, the card readers were said to have been sabotaged, leading to usage of manual accreditation, in Uga, violence also disrupted the process, while in Ekwugigo, Nwatarali stated that some hoodlums hijacked more than half of the sensitive electoral materials for the election.
The REC said that the rescheduled elections would be held on 18th April, including that of Ekwusigo state constituency, which had been scheduled to hold on 25th April.
He adjudged the entire exercise as generally peaceful, except for isolated cases of violence in some of the areas in the state.
