Text: 2 Corinthians 5:12-20
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:20: “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God,” NKJV.
An Ambassador for Christ is a person who has given his life to Christ, saved from sin, living in the glorious liberty that Christ Has made him free and plucked out from the clutches of the devil. An ambassador is an official diplomatic agent of high rank, who is sent out by a ruler or government as a public representative. An Ambassador for Christ is one who is sent out to work as a citizen of God’s Kingdom, representing truth and light in a world of deceit and darkness.
There are those who make the profession of faith, but the power to live for God does not appear to be there. There are those who make so much noise, but the testimony that should follow the noise is not there and the light is not shinning. Jesus, when He was speaking said: “Let your light so shine to such an extent that people may see your good works,” Mathew 5:16. Good works not because you are an ordinary good man on the street, but good works because the good God is in you and brings good, not bad, into you and you cannot bring bad things out of yourself.
The good God is in us bringing out the good works and people should see our good works and glorify our Father Who is in Heaven. That is the best that can happen to anybody who says he is a Christian. People should see your good works and good life. They should also see Christ in you. It actually starts from our homes, as some people say, “charity begins at home.”
Your wife should speak up, your children should speak up and your parents should speak up that you are living for Christ. It should begin in your nuclear family; your kindred should speak up, they should testify for you. All those around you, including in your place of work, should also testify that beyond being a member of a church that you are living for Christ.
If all people can say about me is that I am a pastor and they fail to see me as a child of God without evidence of Christ, as far as I am concerned, it is a total failure. In fact, the church has made an error. Why should the church make one who has not shown evidence of Christ in his life a pastor? Such a pastor is not an Ambassador of Christ because he is not representing God’s Kingdom.
In the Old Testament, there are numerous examples of Christ’s Ambassadors. Noah represented God’s righteousness to unbelievers. Moses proclaimed God’s power and justice in Pharaoh’s court. Joshua showed the might and strength of the Lord before the Canaanites. Daniel and Esther served in foreign governments as ambassadors for Christ through their words and actions. Ambassadors for Christ are God’s special agents, called to proclaim, to direct people to obedience and live lives that are full of testimonies of faith and commitment.
Ambassadors for Christ mean that we represent Christ. If we are to represent Christ, then we have a very tall order before us. We have to allow Christ to take control of our lives. That is the essence of Galatian 2:20 when Apostle Paul said: “I am crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” This is what every child of God should be saying.
