Abure reportedly escapes assassination, home gutted

National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, yesterday, reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on him at his Abuja home.

It was gathered that the residence was also gutted by a mysterious fire, which started a few minutes after 1:00 am while Abure and family members were fast asleep.

According to a relative, who narrated the incident, the family was woken up by the alarm raised by neighbours and security men living in the compound.

The entire household was said to have been trapped, as the inferno had extended to the staircase.

LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, who also confirmed the development, said it took a divine intervention for Abure and his family to escape after neighbours and security men gallantly pulled down one of the windows upstairs to make way for them.

He added that men of the Fire Service arrived shortly after they had been evacuated.

“Abure and his family were rushed to a private hospital where they are presently receiving treatment. Their condition is, however, stable,” the spokesman stated.
