Set To Represent Nigeria At The World Finale in Kingston, Jamaica
WORDS cannot describe the glint that lit the face of 32-year-old Ebelechukwu Chinelo Enemchukwu, a corporate executive and mother of three, as she was announced the winner of ‘Mrs. United Nations Nigeria’ recently.
She became the first winner of the coveted crown in the Nigerian category. She went home with cash prize, a branded car and the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the world finale scheduled for July in Kingston, Jamaica.
The event which held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, paraded a bevy of women who put in their best performances, making it somewhat difficult for the judges led by renowned ex-international football star, John Fashanu, to determine the winner.
The pageant was put together by the current Miss United Nations International, Precious Chikwendu, to serve as a veritable platform for discovering beautiful and intelligent Nigerian women who will represent the country in the 2015 edition of Mrs. United Nations.
It was aimed at giving married women opportunity to come together in a pageant setting, regardless of their background and build relationships with others (men and women), who are working diligently to leave a positive impact in their communities.
According to Chikwendu, the Mrs United Nations Nigeria pageant is a platform created for married women between the ages of 30 and 60 years to provide them the opportunity to showcase their God-given beauty. Call for entries was made earlier this year with emphasis on women between the ages stated above.
She noted that the UN beauty pageant is conceptualised as an international platform with the objective of bringing together representatives of a wide range of communities and cultures from across the world to foster international friendship and understanding.
“The pageant’s principal objective is to identify and showcase the world’s best tourism cause ambassadors; particularly those who have the skills, talents and personalities best suited to promote their respective countries in furtherance of tourism, international goodwill and cultural harmony.
“As delegates come together and share their community volunteer projects, ideas and goals with each other, they become unified as pageant sisters in the United Nations Pageants Family. This sisterhood strengthens them to see beyond their immediate surroundings and situations and extend their services across the globe.
As each delegate share ideas of how she serves her community, she and all whom she meets will be strengthened and edified because their paths have crossed,” Chikwendu enthused.
On the whole, contestants were judged on their interview skills, sportswear, fashion and evening gowns and how photogenic they were.
Speaking after her emergence, an elated Enemchukwu said: “The Mrs. United Nations Nigeria title that I just clinched is indeed a milestone achievement in my life. It feels good to know that I will be representing my country, Nigeria in the world category at the grand finale slated to hold July in Kingston, Jamaica. By God’s grace, I hope to win and promote the pageant system, as well as my pet project known as the Women Are Beautiful Inside and Out (WABIO) Foundation.”
According to her, WABIO is a platform that seeks to restore and sustain the confidence, self-esteem and self-worth as well as life ambition of girls and women which may have been dented or even lost following unwanted pregnancies. This is in line with the third Millennium Development Goal (MDG) — promoting gender equality and empowering women of the world unity organisation.
